문화공간으로 자리잡고있는

문화역서울284

 

대한민국의 근현대사의 주요무대이자 교통과 교류의 관문이였던 서울역을 복원 후, 다양한 문화예술이 창작되고 교류가 이루어 지는 곳으로 출범하였다. 역사적, 공간적, 도시적 상징성을 결합해 옛 서울역 사적번호 284를 결합하여 탄생한 문화역서울28. 옛 모습과 지금의 모습 그리고 가치를 보존하면서 다양한 문화의 교류장으로 발전하고있다.

 

현재 문화역서울284는 다양한 생활문화의 생산점이자 철로가 가진 네트워크로 연계된 문화역으로 대안적이고 실험적인 전시, 공연, 강연, 연구 등 다양한 프로그램 사업을 추진 중이라고 한다. 필자는 11월 10부터 약 보름 동안 전시된 새공공디자인 2017 New Public Design에 다녀와보았다. 다른 갤러리와 전시장과는 달리 舊(구)서울역에서 기획된 전시여서 더 색다르게 느껴졌다.

 

 

공공디자인은 2000년대 중반부터 시작되어 5년동안 큰 인기를 누렸지만 2010년을 지나면서 공공디자인의 인기가 잦아드는 모습을 보였다고한다. 지난 10여 년간의 성공한 공공디자인은 보고서, 문장, 그리고 연출된 이미지에만 존재하였다. "안녕, 낯선 사람"을 통해 새로운 공공디자인의 실천 사례들을 보여주고, 공공디자인에 대한 이해와 새로운 주체를 호명함으로써 공공디자인의 발전에 기여하려는 의도를 가진 기획전이다.

 

전시장을 돌며, 사회적 가치, 문화적 가치, 역사적 가치를 표현하는 디자이너들의 표현과 실천들을 볼수 있었다. 인상깊었던 사과문, 로드킬, 그리고 바라던 바다의 표현을 보며 디자이너들의 메세지를 들을 수 있는 좋은 경험이였다고 생각한다. 앞으로도 문화역서울284 전시장을 찾아가봐야겠다.

Hundreds of thousands of people pass through Seoul Station every day. Old Seoul sation had re-built repurposing historic space, and it is named as Culture Station Seoul 284. As called Culture Station Seoul 284, it perhaps the most approprivate venue for holding particular exhibitions. Culture Station Seoul 284 had old Seoul station's images and values. These elements things assists making new culture venue.

 

Currently, Culture Seoul Sation 284 has plane to various forms and genres of arts are presented, including fine art, music, dance, and etc. CSS 284 offers programs organized by its own staffs as well as programs produced by ouside organizers.

 

I visitied 2017 New Public Design at November 10. I felt awkward because exhibition held Old Seoul Station. It has something different general galleries.

 

New Public Design was held from 2000 and it had popular for 5 years. However, it slowly went down public interest. Public Design was focused reports, sentences, and directed images. Therefore, they would be losing public interest. 2017 New Public Design was different from old things. It showed design actions, and practices. Moreover, it tried to contribute toward deveoping public design.

 

When I walked around the exhibitions, it indicated social, culture, historic values. Designers expressed and showed practices about their ideas. I had deeply impressived design about road kill and Trash at the sea. It indicated the numbers how many animals killed and how to protect the sea from contemporary. I belive that CSS 284 has great venue to encourage vairous exhbitions and programs.
