낙서가 아닌 예술로 자리 잡고 있는 그래피티

 

현재 프랑스 루브르박물관, 풍비두센터, 영국 테이트모던, 미국 뉴욕현대미술관등 세계 유수의 박물관과 갤러리들이 앞 다투어 그래피티 전시를 열고 있다. 그래피티 장르는 스트리트 예술을 넘어 하나의 순수예술의 한 장르이자 팝아트를 이끌 현대미술로 자리잡고 있다.

 

그래피티는 사회비판, 평화등 어두운 유머나 사회 풍자를 자유로운 의사표현과 다양한 표현방식으로 사용되고 있다. K현대미술관에서 10명의 아티스트들과 약 100일 가량 "위대한 낙서: 관람객 예술가가 되다" 주제로 전시회를 열었다.

 

그들의 그래피티 작품들을 통해 그래피티의 역사와 현재, 미래의 모습을 보여주었다. 그래피티를 현대미술로 만든 닉 워커, 사회, 저이적인 메세지를 대통령 선거에 활용해 이슈가 된 셰퍼드페어리, "Liquidation" 기법으로 작품과 브랜드와의 협업을 이끈 제우스, 레지옹 도뇌르 훈장을 받고, 연초 월간 윤종신과 함께한 존원등 다양한 작가들을 통해 그들의 생각과 표현방식을 볼 수 있었다.

최근 <쇼미더머니 >라는 프로그램으로 인해 힙합에 대한 대중의 관심이 증가하고, 대중음악의 주류가 되었다. 힙합이 대세 문화가 되고 있는 시점에서 대중들의 시각이 변화되고 있다고 생각한다. 음가으로는 힙합이, 전시로는 그래피티가 존재한다고 생각한다.

 

아름다운 것이 미술이라는 정의가 있었던 시절이 아닌, 기존의 이미지를 벗어 새로운 방식과 형식을 만들어내고있는 지금이 미술로 정의하고 있는 것 같다. 미술 혹은 예술이 대중들에게 관심이 높아지고 있는 시점에서, 대중들의 생각을 대변할 수 있는 사회적 이슈를 그래피티가 대변하고 있는 건 아닐까?

 

Currently, the Louvre and Centre Georges Pompidou from France, Tate Morden from London, MOMA from NY, and the others are competing to exhibit of Graffiti. Graffiti is led another style of pop art, and it settles culture of mordern art.

 

Graffiti may express underlying social and political messages and a whole genre of artistic expression such as peace and dark sense of humor. In K Museum of Contemporary Art, they were art exhibited as they called "The Great Graffiti" for around 100 days with 10 artists.

 

Artists express their own idea through the works, graffiti. Some of them show the past, present, and the future what they expeect it. There are the famous artists. Nick Walker who changes modern art with graffiti, Shepard Fairey, send messages from using the election activity (painted president, Obama), Zevs, who is known as "Liquidation" technique, and Jonone who got an ordre national de la Legion d'honneur. Thus, I can figoure out their thought and expressions from these artists.

 

Recently, there was the famous tv program <Show Me the Money> in Korea. Therefore, people are changed perspective of HipHop, and they are interesting in it. I believe that people are enjoying the Hippop, then naturally interesting in graffiti. 

 

I would say beauty was the art of deifitnion in the past. However, now, the new method and new things define the arts. Now days, the graffiti shows and expresses artists' own message. So, people are always interesting in the art. Moreover, people like the message of the graffiti that speak for people's thought.
